About the Call Full Details

The Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX), USA, invites artists to apply for its Artist-in-Residence Programme in 2027. Four one-month residencies are scheduled consecutively in June, July, August, and September 2027.

Artists will dedicate at least three days per week to creating their own body of work within the public areas of the museum grounds. This time allows artists to pursue creative works inspired by the natural surroundings of the museum’s campus, as well as key objects and stories within the collection. Interactions with the public are intended to be short and informal, introducing museum visitors to the artist and their artistic process.

Additionally, each artist will spend two days each week (10am–4:30pm) in the museum’s Art Lab (makerspace), working on personal creations and guiding drop-in participatory activities for visitors. These Art Lab activities must be designed for visitors to take home and be completable in a relatively short period (minimum of 5 minutes).

Artists will also have the opportunity to coordinate with ADKX’s curatorial staff for limited access to collection storage areas for study, sketching, and documentation. The museum is situated in a very rural and isolated area with no public transportation or amenities nearby. While a car is not a requirement, the museum’s isolation should be considered. Museum staff provide a weekly shuttle service to nearby grocery stores and pharmacies. Artists are expected to provide their own materials, with the exception of those used for the Art Lab activity.

The Prizes

Primary Award Value A $5,000 USD stipend for the residency duration, $500 USD travel allowance, and complimentary on-site housing are provided. A $250 USD allowance for Art Lab materials is also included.
