Medialab Matadero presents the fifth edition of its annual Situated Research Residency programme, running from January to July 2027. This open call aims to select three research and creation projects that critically and experimentally explore the relationships between contemporary art, design, science, technology, and society, fostering an open approach to collaboration.
Submitted projects must explicitly and coherently connect with one or more themes from Medialab Matadero’s recent programmes, including ‘Medios Sintientes’, ‘The Metabolic Sublime’, ‘Synthetic Minds’, ‘Weird Futures’, and ‘The Mechanics of Truth’. While continuous physical presence in Madrid for the entire period is not mandatory, selected residents are expected to schedule regular and extended research stays at Matadero.
This opportunity invites individuals, groups of individuals, and non-profit legal entities engaged in research and creation across a broad spectrum of fields. Eligible disciplines include art, design, architecture, urban planning, economics, film, photography, journalism, digital media, environmental sciences, philosophy, engineering, social studies, political science, digital tool programming, material sciences, activism, or any other field that can address Medialab Matadero’s lines of work from a novel, critical, experimental, or transdisciplinary perspective.
Applicants must hold Spanish nationality or that of a member State of the European Union.
