About the Call Full Details
The International Portrait Competition is the world’s premier showcase for outstanding portraiture and figurative art. Artists globally are invited to submit their finest work across a variety of mediums. This prestigious competition culminates in an exhibition where selected finalists are required to display their original artwork and attend The Art of the Portrait conference in Washington, DC, from May 6-9, 2027, for final judging and award presentations.
The competition is open to all artists, including faculty who donate their time to teach at the annual conference. However, Portrait Society Executive Board Members, Gold Medal Recipients, and previous Grand Prize winners are ineligible. Work developed under instruction, painted over prints, or generated using AI or other digital creation methods will not be accepted. For 2D artwork, the longest side must not exceed 60 inches (unframed), while 3D sculptures should be under 34 inches and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
